About 95 hours with the backlight off, about 50 at the lowest RGB brightness.
7.8 mm at the front without keycaps, 18.2 mm with them, and 720 g across 424 millimetres. A low-profile board keeps the hand close to the desk, so the wrist does not have to climb to reach the keys — and on a keyboard with a number pad, that adds up over a day of data entry.
The keycaps are LSA profile — low profile, spherically dished, angled — so the fingertip settles into the key rather than sliding over it. Double-shot PBT: the legend is a second piece of plastic, not paint, so it cannot wear off, and PBT does not take the shine ABS develops with use.
Switches pull out and push in without a soldering iron. One limit is worth knowing before ordering: the K5 Max takes Gateron and Keychron low-profile mechanical switches only, because QMK does not support low-profile optical switches.
The long keys — spacebar, shift, enter, backspace and the zero on the number pad — run on the stabilisers redesigned for the Max series, pre-lubricated so they land evenly rather than clattering on one side.
The board runs open-source QMK firmware, and every key, layer and macro is remapped in the Keychron Launcher web app — nothing to install, and the mapping is written into the keyboard so it travels with it. The 22 RGB backlight modes are set the same way.
The board works the same on macOS, Windows and Linux, with the extra modifier keycaps for both systems in the box and twelve media keys along the top row. Three typing angles — 3.37°, 4.36° and 6.56° — on flip-out feet.
The K5 Max is built fully assembled in seven ISO layouts. Ask us which are in stock.
