The M6 is a right-handed shape with a raised back and a textured flank on both sides, so the hand sits on the mouse instead of gripping it. At 86 g it is light for a full-size ergonomic body, which is what keeps long sessions from turning into work for the forearm.
The 8K version uses the PixArt 3950. Sensitivity runs from 100 to 30 000 DPI, tracking speed to 750 IPS, and the lift-off distance can be set to 0.7, 1.0 or 2.0 mm. It also tracks on glass at least 4 mm thick, up to a 1000 Hz report rate — useful on a glass desk, where most optical sensors simply stop.
Polling rate is how often the mouse tells the computer where it is. At the usual 1000 Hz that is once every millisecond; at 8000 Hz it is once every 0.125 ms. On the M6 the rate is switched on the mouse itself, in six steps from 125 Hz up to 8000 Hz, on 2.4 GHz and on the cable.
The 8K version has a metal scroll wheel read by a Hall-effect sensor — magnetic, contactless. Nothing rubs, so there is no encoder to wear out and no rasp as it turns; it reads cleaner and it is quieter than the mechanical encoder in an ordinary wheel.
The main wheel switches between notched scrolling — a step at a time, for lists and menus — and free spin, where one flick carries you down a long document. A second wheel sits under the thumb and scrolls sideways, which is what a wide spreadsheet or a video timeline actually wants.
The published figures: up to 35 h with 2.4 GHz running at 8000 Hz, up to 50 h at 4000 Hz, up to 120 h at 1000 Hz, and up to 165–180 h at 125 Hz on the 1K versions. Charging is over USB-C, and the mouse works while it charges.
A button underneath cycles three paired Bluetooth devices, and DPI and polling rate are changed on the mouse itself. Nothing has to be installed for the mouse to be usable exactly the way you want it.
Keychron Launcher is a web page, not an installer. Open it in Chrome, Edge or Opera with the mouse on the cable or the 2.4 GHz receiver, remap the buttons, record macros, set DPI steps, polling rate and lift-off distance, and write it to one of five profiles stored in the mouse. Nothing to download, and it works the same on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Straight into a Type-A port on a laptop, or through the supplied extension adapter so it sits on the desk next to the mouse instead of behind a tower.
